December 15, 2021, Brussels – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu, signed, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, a set of documents, which confirm the conclusion of agreements between our country and the European financial institutions necessary for the implementation of the project „Energy Efficiency of the Republic of Moldova”.

It is another success of the negotiating teams, colleagues from the Government and European partners that demonstrates, through concrete facts, the support for our country in its path of European modernization. Citizens will have access to quality services in better conditions, given that the main categories of buildings to be renovated are those with a social purpose.” stated Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu.

The financing contract is aimed at the energy renovation of institutions of national and local importance, such as hospitals, kindergartens and public schools.

„Only by renovating the hospital institutions included in the project, annually, over 250.000 patients will benefit from high quality services taking into account the fact that the energy efficiency interventions for a building involve ensuring thermal comfort and savings of at least 5.2 million euros per year, which could be directed to other needs of the beneficiary institutions.” highlighted Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu.

According to the documents signed today, the Republic of Moldova will benefit from a loan of 30 million euros from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as well as a grant of 2.8 million euros from the Neighbourhood Investment Platform and the Eastern Partnership Technical Assistance Trust Fund (EPTATF).
