14 July 2026, Brussels – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.

The two officials welcomed two major developments for the Republic of Moldova this week: the launch of accession negotiations under Cluster 6 – External Relations and the approval of a new €120 million assistance package under the European Peace Facility (EPF), which will help strengthen the country’s defence capabilities and resilience.

The discussions focused on the priorities of Moldova’s EU accession process, cooperation in the areas of foreign policy, security and defence, as well as the country’s contribution to European security through alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, participation in CSDP missions, and efforts to counter hybrid threats.

“The Republic of Moldova highly values the European Union’s continued support, which helps us advance on our path towards accession, strengthen our state institutions, and contribute, as a future EU Member State, to the security and stability of Europe,” said Mihai Popșoi.

Kaja Kallas reaffirmed the European Union’s strong support for the Republic of Moldova’s continued European path and for deepening cooperation in the fields of security and defence.
