General Information

The General Division of Consular Affairs includes three section:

  1. The section of Law and Consular relations
  2. The section of Consular Services
  3. The section of Public Relations

The section of Law and Consular relations is responsible for the consolidation of national and international legislation in the consular field and development of bilateral and multilateral consular relations with other states.

The section of Consular Services has the competence to provide practical consular assistance to Moldovan and foreign citizens.

The section of Public Relations is responsible for interaction with mass-media, monitoring of the cases with Moldovan citizens in difficult situations, administration of the cases of petitions and requests of citizens, etc.

The General Division is headed by a Head of the General Division , who is appointed or dismissed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The General Division also has a Deputy-Head. The total number of employees of the General Division of Consular Affairs is 19. Due to the complexity of consular service, experts in the civil, family, citizenship, migration, asylum, international adoptions, notary and vital records field are working within the General Division.

In order to increase the level of transparency, the annual reports of activity of the General Division are usually placed on the web pages of the MFAEI and diplomatic missions and consular posts of the Republic of Moldova, except for the information being considered confidential, state secret or which cannot be divulged due to other reasons mentioned by the law.
