Apostil

On 16 March 2007, Moldova became part of the Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. For the implementation of this Convention, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova has been assigned as the Central Authority designed to issue Apostilles on behalf of the Republic of Moldova.   

The Apostille can be requested by any holder of a public document, who wishes to certify its authenticity, from the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova

As of October 1, 2013, Moldovan citizens can authenticate official documents online. The e-Apostil is delivered in a PDF format and contains the apostil signed electronically by an official of the Ministry of Justice, and a scanned copy of the official document. Citizens who have a digital signature can apply and pay for an apostil online on the apostila.gov.md.

Which documents are eligible for an apostille certificate: 

  • acts of civil status issued after February 24, 1998 and duplicates of civil status acts, except for death certificates issued in the three-month period before the submission for apostile application;
  • documents issued by the Publice Services Agency;
  • criminal records certificates issued by the Ministry of the Interior;
  • study documents issued by the accredited in accordance with the legislation education institutions, will be presented together with confirmation from educational institution which issued the act of study or from the Ministry of Education;
  • notarial acts;
  • court decisions or other acts emanating from the judicial authorities, including the courts, prosecutors, court clerks and bailiffs;
  • certificates issued by the National Social Insurance House, certifying the work experience;
  • medical certificates issued by the specialized medical centers for medical examination of emigrants and immigrants, and the National Scientific and Practical Centre of Preventive Medicine/Center for Prevention and Control of AIDS;
  • other documents issued by official bodies of the Republic of Moldova on behalf of individuals and legal entities covered by the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents.

However, it is not affixed to:

  • documents issued by diplomatic or consular officials;
  • documents directly related to a commercial or customs transaction;
  • the documents that, on applying other International Conventions, are exempt from being legalised or apostilled (multilingual extracts from civil status documents issued under the Convention of the International Commission on Civil Status no16 on the issue of multilingual extracts from civil status, signed at Vienna on September 8, 1976 or certificate of capacity to contract marriage, issued under the Convention of the International Commission on Civil Status no.20 concerning the issue of certificates of non-impediment to marriage, signed at Munch  on September 5, 1980).
