June 2, 2021, Chișinău - The head of the Moldovan diplomacy Aureliu Ciocoi welcomed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs George P. Kent, the deputy assistant of the US Secretary of State, Office of European and Eurasian Affairs of the State Department , on a working visit to the Republic Moldova. The officials discussed the reconfirmation of the US authorities' support for democratic processes in the Republic of Moldova, the development and consolidation of Moldovan-American relations in various areas of mutual interest in the Strategic Dialogue, the pandemic crisis, the situation in the Eastern European and the developments on the Transnistrian file.
During the meeting, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration mention the importance of giving a concrete dimension to Moldovan-American relations in terms of political dialogue and trade-economic cooperation, security and combating hybrid threats.
Aureliu Ciocoi highlighted the importance of American assistance in ensuring continuous processes of modernization of the country, supporting economic development, strengthening democratic institutions, fighting corruption, advancing justice reform, improving the investment climate, and the prospects for developing and consolidating the Strategic Dialogue through concrete actions. between the Republic of Moldova and the USA. The Moldovan diplomat highlighted the importance of the platform of the Thematic Joint Working Groups for capitalizing on the existing cooperation potential.
The interlocutors also addressed the current state of the negotiation process on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, as well as the steps to be taken in the next period. Aureliu Ciocoi appreciated the readiness of the American side to support joint efforts to identify a comprehensive and viable solution to the Transnistrian issue based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within the internationally recognized borders.
At the same time, the interlocutors exchanged views on the process of withdrawal of foreign troops and ammunition from the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing the need to maintain a continuous and transparent dialogue both with stakeholders and in relevant international organizations on the effective resumption of this trial.
The dignitaries also exchanged views on the regional and security situation, as well as the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova.
At the end, Aureliu Ciocoi and George Kent discussed the topic of early parliamentary elections in the summer of this year, the efforts of the Chisinau authorities for the proper conduct of the election and for ensuring a democratic, free and transparent electoral process.
