Chișinău, April 15, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi received the delegation of the Committee on Security and Defence of the European Parliament (SEDE), led by Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman. The delegation also included MEPs Rasa Juknevičienė, Andrey Novakov, Sven Mikser, Pierre-Romain Thionnet, Reinis Pozņaks, and Petras Auštrevičius.

During the meeting, Minister Mihai Popșoi emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation with European structures in the field of security and defense, considering the Republic of Moldova’s EU accession process. Confidence was also expressed that the EU’s Growth Plan for Moldova will help accelerate reforms, boost economic development, and strengthen resilience against the challenges facing the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi expressed gratitude for the work of the European Union Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM), which has become a trusted partner for Moldovan authorities in building crisis management capacities and countering hybrid threats.

The head of Moldovan diplomacy highly appreciated the assistance provided by the European Union through the European Peace Facility (EPF), taking into account current security challenges. Moldova expressed the desire to continue benefiting from support provided through the EPF in the coming years.

The Moldovan deputy prime minister highlighted the country’s efforts to advance on the path of EU accession, underlined the progress made so far, and expressed hope for the opening of accession negotiations on all clusters during this year.

In turn, the MEPs noted the progress made by the Republic of Moldova on the path to EU membership and communicated SEDE’s readiness to support strengthening cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova.

Note: Considering current challenges and the priorities of the European Parliament, earlier this year SEDE was upgraded to a standalone committee. Previously, it was a subcommittee, part of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET).
