Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi held meetings with his counterparts from Ireland, Denmark and Azerbaijan at the Munich Security Conference

February 15, 2025, Munich – During the Munich Security Conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Ireland, Denmark and Azerbaijan. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation and support for Moldova’s European integration. 

In the dialogue with Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Minister for Defence, Simon Harris, officials highlighted the progress in Moldovan-Irish cooperation and Ireland’s strong support for Moldova’s accession to the European Union. The valuable contribution of the Moldovan diaspora to strengthening bilateral relations was emphasized, and for 2025, a key priority will be the opening of the Irish Embassy in Chișinău - an essential step in deepening diplomatic and economic dialogue.

During the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi welcomed Denmark’s continued support for Moldova, including in the field of energy security. Minister Popșoi also expressed gratitude for Denmark’s €5.4 million contribution to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund.

Additionally, the prospects for deepening bilateral dialogue were discussed in the context of Denmark’s presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2025, with reaffirmed support of Denmark for Moldova’s European path.

The meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, provided an opportunity to discuss the enhancement of political and sectoral cooperation between the two countries. The importance of regular political consultations between the foreign ministries was underscored, with the next round planned in Baku, along with advancing preparations for the Moldova-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. Discussions also addressed strengthening collaboration within international organizations and regional security matters.

The meetings reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to strong bilateral relations with partner states while advancing towards European integration and sustainable economic cooperation.
