Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi Meets New Chinese Ambassador Dong Zhihua

13 January 2026, at Chișinău - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Moldova, Dong Zhihua.

The discussions focused on the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for deepening cooperation, with an emphasis on political and diplomatic dialogue, including preparations for the next round of interministerial political consultations, as well as the development of economic and sectoral cooperation.

“We aim to develop our relations with the People’s Republic of China through an open, results-oriented dialogue and to harness the potential for cooperation for the benefit of citizens of both countries,” said Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi.

The parties highlighted opportunities to increase Moldovan exports to the Chinese market, particularly wines and agro-food products, as well as mutual interest in attracting investment and strengthening cooperation in areas such as energy efficiency, agriculture, infrastructure, and education.

On 30 January 2026, Moldova and the People’s Republic of China will celebrate the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the head of Moldova’s diplomacy welcomed the start of Ambassador Dong’s mandate and reaffirmed the Moldovan authorities’ openness to continue dialogue and deepen friendship and cooperation with the People’s Republic of China.
