8 May 2019, Chișinău – A round table was held at MFAEI, where the representatives of governmental institutions of the National Coalition Supporting Eurasian Jewry (NCSEJ), as well as representatives of some Diplomatic missions and public organisations from our country have discussed the achievements in the field of educational policies regarding the fostering of the Holocaust remembrance, researching and preserving the historic and cultural heritage of Jewry in Moldova and improvement of the national legislation in the field of preventing and fighting anti-Semitism, hatred and intolerance.
In the speeches made at the beginning of the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi and the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, have mentioned the progress made in achieving the objectives established in the Action Plan of the Government regarding the implementation of the Parliament's Declaration from 22nd of July 2016 concerning the acceptance of the “Elie Wiesel Report”.
Minister Tudor Ulianovschi thanked the international partners for the provided support to the Republic of Moldova in the implementation of the policy framework in the discussed field, adding that "in the context of the disturbing rise of anti-Semitism and other “-isms” and extremist movements throughout the world, the Republic of Moldova remains firm regarding the promotion of interethnic understanding and takes action to foster the remembrance of the Holocaust, to fight anti-Semitism, hatred and intolerance of any type”.
In turn, Minister Monica Babuc has highlighted the role of education, culture and scientific researches in studying the history of the Holocaust and fostering the remembrance of the victims of this terrible tragedy so that such crimes against humanity will never repeat. "Today’s meeting represents a good opportunity for dialogue with the Jewish communities around the world and for assessing the accomplished actions from the Action Plan".
At the same time, the NCSEJ president, Daniel Rubin, has outlined in his speech that the commitments of the Moldovan authorities with the aim of fighting anti-Semitism, should inspire everyone, “we deeply appreciate this initiative of the Government of the Republic of Moldova”. Emmanuil Grinşpun, Management Board president of the Jewish Community in the Republic of Moldova mentioned that “in the context of the joint actions taken in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Moldova in the presented fields, I want to express my gratitude and hope for a further productive collaboration, because there is a lot to be accomplished together”.
At the event, the sides also discussed about the progress made in conducting the “Action Plan for 2017-2019 years regarding the implementation of the Declaration of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova concerning the acceptance of the Final report of the International Commission on the Holocaust, chaired by Elie Wiesel”.
