March 13, 2025, Chișinău – The Government of the Republic of Moldova has approved the establishment of two new Consulates General in the United States of America, located in Sacramento and Chicago, responding directly to the needs of Moldovan citizens residing in the American diaspora.
The new consular offices will facilitate citizens' access to essential public services, reducing the distances they currently have to travel for consular assistance. The Consulate General in Sacramento will serve the Moldovan diaspora in the western United States, while the Chicago Consulate will become a strategic point of contact for Moldovans in the Midwest region.
Both offices will enable faster appointments, efficient processing of requests for consular documents, passports, and other official papers, ensuring prompt assistance and protection of citizens' rights. Additionally, the new consulates will play a vital role in strengthening economic, cultural, and educational ties between the Republic of Moldova and the United States, supporting Moldovan entrepreneurs, students, and professionals in these regions.
The operationalization of the Consulates General in Sacramento and Chicago is necessary to cover the central-western area of the USA consular-wise and to adequately relieve the consular section of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Washington D.C.
By establishing these two Consulates General, the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to providing direct support and efficient services to its citizens abroad, while also strengthening bilateral relations with the United States of America.
