November 25, 2025, Chișinău – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi participated in the launch of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” Campaign, organized under the auspices of the Republic of Moldova’s Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
The event brought together representatives of public authorities, international partners, and civil society, who followed a symbolic route through the city center in solidarity with victims of violence.
In his speech, Minister Popșoi emphasized the Republic of Moldova’s firm commitment to promoting gender equality and protecting women:
“The Republic of Moldova is an example in promoting gender equality and protecting women’s rights. I was pleased to contribute to the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, and today, as Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, we will encourage the states that have not yet ratified this convention to do so. Gender equality begins in the family and by personal example. A truly European society cannot exist without respecting women’s rights.”
The minister also highlighted recent progress in increasing women’s representation in politics and state institutions, as well as the importance of education based on respect, equity, and zero tolerance for violence.
The “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” Campaign marks an annual period dedicated to raising public awareness and mobilizing communities to prevent violence and ensure a safe environment for all women and girls in the Republic of Moldova.
