March 19, 2025, New Delhi – In New Delhi, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
During the meeting, the foreign ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture. This agreement will enable farmers from Moldova and India to exchange experiences, technologies, and best practices in agriculture. Modern solutions to increase production will be implemented, and access to new markets for agricultural products will be facilitated. The memorandum will strengthen economic relations and bring sustainable benefits to farmers and entrepreneurs in both countries.
An important topic discussed was the implementation, on February 21, of the Government of India’s decision to allow free access for Moldovan apples to the Indian market — the largest in the world, with a population of 1.4 billion.
“The Republic of Moldova greatly appreciates the support and cooperation of Indian authorities in achieving this milestone,” Minister Mihai Popșoi noted, emphasizing the significant opportunities this opens for Moldovan farmers. In this context, on March 19, a container of apples from Moldova will be shipped to India in accordance with the new market access regulations.
The foreign ministers also discussed cooperation in the field of aviation. Mihai Popșoi highlighted that he had a productive discussion with the Indian Minister of Civil Aviation, Sri Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu. They agreed to accelerate negotiations for concluding a bilateral aviation agreement, which will create opportunities for Indian investments in this sector.
Additionally, Mihai Popșoi and Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar addressed several other common interest topics, including strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in education between the Republic of Moldova and India.
In closing, the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his gratitude for the invitation to visit the Republic of Moldova.
