28 January 2026, Strasbourg - In his capacity as President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi delivered a speech at the plenary session of the Winter Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg.
In his address, Minister Popșoi highlighted the key aspects of the Council of Europe’s role and positioning in the current European and international context. He emphasized the importance of the organization, stressing the need for continuous adaptation to new geopolitical realities and emerging hybrid threats.
Deputy Prime Minister Popșoi presented the priorities of Moldova’s Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, which focus on strengthening the European Convention on Human Rights system, promoting children’s rights, providing consistent support for Ukraine, and combating disinformation. He also underscored the importance of respecting international law principles and the role of multilateral cooperation in a European and global security context marked by major challenges.
“Today, the Council of Europe’s mission to protect human rights, democracy, and the rule of law is more important than ever. Under the motto ‘For a Europe of Peace and Resilience,’ the Republic of Moldova aims to contribute to strengthening the organization’s core values and enhancing its capacity to respond effectively to current challenges,” stated Mihai Popșoi.
