June 19, 2025, Reggio Calabria – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with citizens of the Republic of Moldova residing in the Calabria and Sicily regions of Italy.
The Minister spoke about the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen ties with the diaspora and to identify solutions to the challenges Moldovans abroad face on a daily basis.
The head of diplomacy discussed the Social Security Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Italy, recently approved by the Italian Parliament and set to be implemented soon. This agreement will allow the recognition of years worked and facilitate access to pensions and other social benefits for Moldovans working in Italy.
Mihai Popșoi also mentioned that a new Agreement on Driver’s License Conversion is in the final stage of negotiation and will be signed in the near future.
He thanked members of the diaspora for their large turnout in the 2024 presidential election and referendum, and for their ongoing support for Moldova’s European path. He encouraged them to make their voices heard again in the upcoming elections on September 28, 2025, stressing that this vote will be a decisive moment for the country’s European future.
Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi met with Giuseppe Falcomatà, the Mayor of Reggio Calabria. During their discussion, he acknowledged the meaningful contribution of the Moldovan community to the development of the region and expressed gratitude to local authorities for their hospitality and care shown toward Moldovan citizens.
