14 May 2026, Chișinău – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Espen Barth Eide.
The two officials highlighted the very good level of Moldova–Norway relations. In this context, Minister Mihai Popșoi reiterated his appreciation for Norway’s decision to open an embassy in Chișinău in the second half of 2026, reflecting Norway’s commitment to strengthening dialogue with our country. At present, Norway is represented in the Republic of Moldova through an Embassy Office opened in November 2025.
During the discussions, the shared interest in deepening bilateral cooperation in priority areas—including economic, energy and investment cooperation—as well as in intensifying trade exchanges, was reaffirmed. Minister Mihai Popșoi also expressed interest in developing direct air connectivity between Chișinău and Oslo in order to facilitate economic and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi thanked Norway for its continued support in strengthening institutional resilience, including in combating disinformation and countering external interference. He also conveyed the Republic of Moldova’s readiness to share the experience and expertise gained in the field of resilience-building with partner countries.
The two ministers agreed to continue dialogue and to make full use of the potential of the Moldova–Norway partnership for the benefit of citizens of both countries.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Espen Barth Eide will also take part tomorrow, 15 May, in the 135th Ministerial Session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers.
