November 21, 2025, Chișinău – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), held in Chișinău under the auspices of the Republic of Moldova’s Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CM CoE).
The event brought together around 60 parliamentarians from the 46 member states of the organization.
In his speech, Minister Popșoi presented the priorities of Moldova’s Chairmanship of the CM CoE, which will be held from November 14, 2025, to May 16, 2026, and emphasized the need to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation to respond effectively to common challenges.
“We live in a moment when defending democracy, human rights, and the rule of law is not only an institutional obligation but a shared responsibility. Our Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers reaffirms the Republic of Moldova’s commitment to actively contribute to a more united, safer, and resilient Europe,” stated Minister Mihai Popșoi.
During the Q&A session, Deputy Prime Minister Popșoi exchanged views with PACE parliamentarians on the current challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova and member states. Discussions focused on combating disinformation, protecting social rights, and countering hybrid attacks by the Russian Federation, including in the context of Moldova’s recent parliamentary elections.
Minister Popșoi also held a meeting with the President of PACE, Theodoros Rousopoulos. The interlocutors discussed recent developments within the Council of Europe and cooperation in the context of Moldova’s Chairmanship. The Moldovan Foreign Minister reiterated the country’s firm commitment to fulfilling its obligations as a member state.
