June 24, 2020, Chișinău - Moldo-Norwegian relations and development assistance provided by Norway to our country, as well as cooperation within international organisations were discussed today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Ţulea with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Ine Eriksen Soreide.

The interlocutors reviewed the main objectives of Moldo-Norwegian bilateral cooperation, highlighting the importance of strengthening political dialogue and trade and economic cooperation.

Officials also addressed issues of cooperation within international organisations. The Head of Moldovan diplomacy congratulated Norway on its recent election as a member of the UN Security Council for the period 2021-2022, expressing its firm belief that, in this position, Norway will continue to make a significant contribution to the promotion of global peace and security, especially in the context of current global challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the same time, the support provided by Norway to the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova for the years 2017-2020 was appreciated, Norway being the second-largest funder of this project.

In the context of the efforts of the authorities of the two states to fight the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, Minister Oleg Țulea expressed gratitude for the valuable contribution of Norway to the UN Covid-19 Response and Recovery Fund, including the Republic of Moldova. Our country benefits from a project amounting to 1 million US dollars for the procurement of protective equipment for front-line personnel, providing the necessary assistance for the maintenance of vulnerable and marginalised women during the pandemic and for strengthening the capacity to manage and control infections at border crossings.
