October 7, 2025, Chișinău – Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a training course on cyber diplomacy, organized in a hybrid format by the Estonian e-Governance Academy in partnership with the Diplomatic Institute of the MFA.
The event was attended by MFA staff, representatives of other government institutions, as well as renowned international experts such as Patryk Pawlak, professor at the European University Institute and project director at the Global Initiative on the Future of the Internet, and Helen Popp, Special Ambassador for Cyber and Digital Issues of Estonia.
In his opening remarks, Secretary of State Valeriu Mija emphasized the importance of cyberspace and digitalization for modern democracies, stating: “The experience of the last two electoral cycles in the Republic of Moldova has highlighted the importance of cooperation between national institutions and external partners in preventing cyber risks and strengthening digital resilience. In this regard, Estonia remains a valuable example of digital transformation and secure integration of technologies into democratic processes.”
The course aimed to strengthen understanding of international processes in cyber diplomacy and the mechanisms through which governments can respond to challenges in the digital space. Participants discussed topics such as preventing cyberattacks, incident management, state responsibility, and international cooperation, including the UN framework on responsible state behavior in cyberspace.
This initiative reflects the Republic of Moldova’s commitment to strengthening its national cyber posture and actively participating in international processes related to cybersecurity and digital diplomacy.
