22 September 2026, New York – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a meeting with the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The officials reviewed developments in Moldova–India relations and highlighted the importance of the visit of the President of the Republic of India, Droupadi Murmu, to Chișinău in July this year in giving new impetus to bilateral cooperation and broadening the common agenda. The discussions focused on cooperation in areas such as trade, education, energy, agriculture, information technology and healthcare.

“India is an important partner and a country with which the Republic of Moldova can achieve much more together. In recent years, we have succeeded in strengthening our bilateral dialogue, and we now want to build closer ties between our people and business communities. We have many Indian students in the Republic of Moldova – young people who know our country and who, over time, can contribute to the long-term development of our relations,” the Moldovan Foreign Minister said.

Mihai Popșoi highlighted the Republic of Moldova’s openness to attracting Indian investment. In this context, the opportunities offered by the National Industrial Development Programme and Moldova IT Park were discussed.

Another topic of the meeting was the expansion of exports by facilitating access for Moldovan products to the Indian market, including Moldovan wine. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the positive experience of Moldovan apples, which are reaching consumers in India, particularly following the Republic of Moldova’s inclusion, in February 2025, on the list of countries approved to export apples to the Indian market.

The two ministers discussed holding the third round of interministerial political consultations by the end of the year, as well as the first meeting of the Joint Working Group on Agriculture. They also addressed the further development of the bilateral legal framework and progress on agreements currently under negotiation, including in the fields of healthcare, education and air services.
