Moldovan - Czech political consultations

June 17, 2021, Chișinău – The next round of Moldovan-Czech political consultations took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the national delegation headed by state secretary Dumitru Socolan and the Czech delegation headed by Aleš Chmelař, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Agenda of the talks included topical issues on the bilateral agenda at political, economic and sectoral level, as well as an in-depth exchange of views on topics of common regional and international interest.

The parties confirmed the excellent level of Moldovan-Czech cooperation and the readiness of both states to consolidate it into a comprehensive register of topics of common interest. The discussions provided an opportunity to review the calendar of bilateral meetings, highlighting the quality of political dialogue at all levels. The issues addressed concerned the possibilities of diversification of investments and expansion of trade-economic cooperation. Along these lines, it was agreed to undertake joint actions to organise the 5th meeting of the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation.

The delegations appreciated the development assistance provided by Czech partners in the context of projects implemented in national priority sectors as very important and practical. Secretary of State Dumitru Socolan reiterated his appreciation for the substantial humanitarian assistance given to our country in order to combat the pandemic, as well as the support of the Czech authorities in the process of repatriating Moldovans last year.

The diplomats exchanged views on the current state of Moldova's dialogue with the European Union and discussed the prospects for strengthening the Eastern Partnership and the preparations for its upcoming Summit. Deputy minister Aleš Chmelař reiterated the firm will of the Czech Republic to sincerely and selflessly support further the reform and modernization policy in the Republic of Moldova in the process of European integration.

The interlocutors reviewed the good cooperation and support of the two states diplomacy at the multilateral level, as well as interaction and mutual support within international organizations.

Dumitru Socolan and Aleš Chmelař exchanged views on developments on the regulation of the Transnistrian file, including the regional situation.

In the end, the parties agreed to continue the dialogue on the implementation of bilateral agreements in a new round of political consultations.
