September 10, 2025, Chișinău – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that, starting November 8, 2025, citizens of the Republic of Moldova residing in Italy will be able to exchange driver’s licenses issued after 2020 for Italian licenses without taking theoretical or practical exams. Italian citizens residing in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from the same conditions.

 Under the new version of the Agreement, any future changes regarding the format of licenses can be updated through the exchange of Notes Verbales, without the need to restart the entire legal procedure for amending the Agreement – a process that previously took years and created difficulties for holders of the new types of licenses.

This achievement confirms the ongoing commitment of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova to protect the rights of its citizens wherever they are and to support their mobility and integration within the European space.
