Perspectives for the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization discussed in Brussels

4 March 2020, Brussels – Priorities in the Republic of Moldova - NATO cooperation agenda, including the elaboration of a new Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), implementation of the NATO Defence Capacity Building Assistance Package for the Republic of Moldova, implementation of projects in the framework of Science for Peace and Security Programme, cooperation in combating new security challenges, as well as promoting public diplomacy activities, were discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aureliu Ciocoi with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoană.

Minister Aureliu Ciocoi thanked the Alliance for the continuous assistance and expertise offered to the Republic of Moldova and reiterated the interest of Chisinau authorities to continue the political dialogue and practical cooperation with NATO in the areas of interest. In particular, was emphasized the commitment of Moldovan authorities for setting the priority areas of cooperation with the Alliance for the period 2020-2022 in the framework of a new Individual Partnership Action Plan.

For his part, Mircea Geoană reconfirmed Alliance’s commitment for the partnership with the Republic of Moldova, reiterating organisation’s support for the sovereignity, territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and respect for the neutral status of the country. The NATO official appreciated Republic of Moldova’s contribution to building security in Europe by participating in the peacekeeping operation KFOR in Kosovo region. It was also expressed the Alliance’s readiness to further support Republic of Moldova in the process of reforms and modernisation of the country based on the requests of  Chișinău authorities.
