Perspectives of cooperation with the European Union discussed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the context of Cyprus’ Presidency of the EU Council

August 26, 2025, Chișinău – State Secretary Carolina Perebinos held a meeting with Marilena Raouna, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, who is on a working visit to Chișinău in the context of preparations for the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January – June 2026).

The two officials exchanged views on the prospects for advancing the Republic of Moldova’s European integration process, both in the preparatory period and during the exercise of the Cypriot Presidency. The discussions focused in particular on the content and timeline of actions to be undertaken by the Republic of Moldova and its European partners, aimed at launching and subsequently completing negotiations on Accession Chapter 31 – Foreign, Security, and Defense Policy, coordinated at the national level by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In this context, State Secretary Carolina Perebinos reaffirmed the Moldovan authorities’ commitment to coherently advancing the necessary measures to continue the country’s European path. Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna, in turn, appreciated the Republic of Moldova’s progress in the EU accession process and expressed the Cypriot side’s openness for active and effective cooperation during its Presidency.

Furthermore, the two officials highlighted the strong bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Cyprus, as well as the efficient collaboration between the representatives of the two countries within international organizations.
