June 29, 2020, Chișinău - Regarding the requests of the media representatives to comment on the opening by the Embassy of the Russian Federation of polling stations on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

In a verbal note to the MFAEI, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova announced its intention to open two polling stations in Chișinău and Tiraspol for organising and conducting the referendum on introducing amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

In this regard, the MFAEI reiterated the position of principle of the Moldovan authorities on refraining from opening polling stations in localities from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, invoking, in this regard, the impossibility of ensuring, by the qualified constitutional bodies, the security conditions necessary for such activities to take place.

At the same time, the legislation of the Republic of Moldova does not contain restrictive provisions regarding the conduct of elections and, respectively, the opening of polling stations by foreign diplomatic missions.
