May 14, 2024, Chișinau - The Security and Defense Partnership represents a political arrangement regarding increased cooperation in the field of security and defense that will be concluded between the Republic of Moldova and the EU in the near future, in accordance with the objectives established in the National Security Strategy of our country. The EU is in the process of establishing such partnerships with a number of countries with which it has reached a more intensive level of cooperation.

Most of the activities envisaged by the Partnership are already being carried out in practice, but the establishment of the Partnership will allow us to have a basis for more systemic cooperation with the EU.

In essence, the Partnership will function as an umbrella arrangement for all interactions between the Republic of Moldova and the EU in areas such as EU assistance for strengthening the resilience of our country, cyber security, combating disinformation, assistance for the defense sector through the European Instrument for Peace, the participation of the Republic of Moldova in within the EU crisis management missions, integrated border management. Based on this partnership, the Republic of Moldova and the EU will hold an annual dialogue in the field of security and defense, but will also be able to establish thematic dialogues on some areas of mutual interest. The document on the Security and Defense Partnership will not have the status of an international treaty but will be based on political commitments.
