June 11, 2020, Chișinău - Future priorities for cooperation in the Eastern Partnership (EAP), as well as counteracting the consequences of the epidemiological crisis were on the agenda of the virtual meeting attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Țulea, together with foreign ministers of EU Member States and the EaP. The meeting was chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

The Head of Moldovan diplomacy pointed out the importance of deepening the political dialogue and sectoral cooperation within the EaP. „The Eastern Partnership needs new ideas, but also a political impetus. Combining a renewed vision, enhanced capabilities and political commitment, we will be able to provide the Partnership with the necessary dynamism and ambition. By setting new cooperation objectives, we will create tangible benefits for citizens, but we will also bring more cohesion between the eastern partners and the EU countries ", mentioned Oleg Țulea.

In the context of discussion on the sectoral objectives of the Partnership, Minister Țulea stressed that the Republic of Moldova will pay more attention to cooperation in the field of strengthening the rule of law, which is a major priority at the national level. Also, in the framework of economic cooperation, special emphasis will be placed on capitalising on the potential of the DCFTA, implementing the Investment Plan on the TEN-T transportation network, expanding energy connectivity and connecting to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). Proposals related to digital transformations, environmental protection and the consolidation of an inclusive society that will contribute to the sustainable development of the entire region of the Eastern Partnership will be supported by the Republic of Moldova.

Participants in the meeting also exchanged views on the challenges and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Oleg Țulea highly appreciated the support given to the Republic of Moldova by the European institutions and the EU member states for the medical system as well as the mitigation of the socio-economic impact. Proposals to strengthen cooperation in the field of health were welcomed. At the same time, the head of Moldovan diplomacy pointed out the need to improve international cooperation in crisis situations.

The ministerial meeting took place in the context of the preparations for the EaP meeting at the leadership level, scheduled for June 18.
