On 30 September 2025, a new round of interministerial political consultations between the Republic of Moldova and Japan took place in Chișinău. The delegation of the Republic of Moldova was headed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergiu Mihov, while the Japanese delegation was led by Ambassador Masaki Ishikawa, Deputy Assistant Minister for European Affairs of Japan.

The two sides reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation and discussed prospects for expanding it in areas such as economy and trade, health, cyber security, education, and research. The officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the Moldovan–Japanese partnership.

The importance of enhancing economic contacts was emphasized, including through business missions, Japanese investments in Chișinău, and Japan’s continued support provided via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in agriculture, health, finance, and the media sector.

The consultations also addressed cooperation within international organizations, regional and global developments, as well as the strong support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The next round of interministerial political consultations will take place in 2026, following the previous round held in 2024 in Tokyo.
