February 21, 2025, Vienna – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova participated in the winter session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held in Vienna, where the impact of new technologies and social networks on electoral processes was addressed, including from the perspective of the Republic of Moldova.

During the debates, parliamentarians discussed how algorithmic filtering of news on social media platforms influences media pluralism, freedom of expression, and citizens’ access to diverse political messages. Concern was also raised about the use of deepfakes and AI-manipulated content in online electoral campaigns.

The main conclusion of the meeting was that electoral campaigning in the online environment has become an integral part of democratic processes, generating both challenges and opportunities. OSCE member states must collaborate to adapt regulations to new technologies, ensuring the protection of electoral integrity and the respect of fundamental rights and freedoms.
