Statement by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Mihai Popșoi:

“We strongly condemn Russia’s use of the Oreshnik ballistic missile in its brutal attacks overnight on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which left the population of Kyiv, Lviv, and Kryvyi Rih without electricity or running water.

Human life is one of the highest values protected by the Council of Europe, and there must be no impunity for these brutal attacks.

The actions undertaken by the Council of Europe to ensure accountability for Ukraine-including the operation of the Damage Registry, the recent launch in The Hague of the Claims Commission process, and the progress made in establishing the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine-represent important steps in this direction.

Support for Ukraine and accountability for the crime of aggression committed by the Russian Federation are a top priority of Moldova’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine and support a just peace for the country.”
