Legal Framework:

  • Convention between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Canada on double taxation avoidance as well as the prevention of fiscal evasion regarding income and capital taxes (Chişinău, July 04, 2002). In force (link).

Economic and Commercial Relations

According to the National Bureau of Statistics data, the volume of the bilateral trade of the Republic of Moldova with Canada amounted to 5,6 mln US dollars from January to April 2021. In 2020, the volume of the bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to around 11,8 mln US dollars, where the exports from the Republic of Moldova to Canada registered over 5,5 mln US dollars and Canadian goods imported to the Republic of Moldova up to 6,2 mln US dollars. These data do not reflect export and import operations of enterprises and economic agents from the left bank of the Nistru river and Bender municipality.

The main export goods to Canada: natural honey; fruits; cereal grains, including groats; sunflower seeds and oil from these seeds; sugar products without cocoa; chocolate and other food items containing cocoa; salt; articles of transport or packaging of plastics; chairs and other furniture; wines of fresh grapes; animal products.

The main imports from Canada: frozen fish; drugs; varnishes and paints based on synthetic or natural polymers; wood; reciprocating or rotary piston engines; agricultural machinery; telephone sets; electronic equipment; electric acoustic or visual signalling devices; glasses; household items; transmission belts; articles of vulcanised rubber; fruits and nuts; molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates.
