September 8, 2023, Chișinău - The Republic of Moldova does not recognize and condemns the organization of the so-called "local" and "regional" elections in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, scheduled for September 10th of this year.

The attempt by the Russian Federation to legitimize the forcible occupation of the sovereign territory of Ukraine is illegal and is in complete contradiction with the provisions of international law and international treaties to which Russia itself is a party. By organizing the so-called elections, Russia directly violates the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act, deliberately infringing upon the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The Republic of Moldova reaffirms its strong support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
