July 26, 2023, Chișinău - Today, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE). During the meeting, the Russian side was informed about the decision of the Moldovan authorities regarding the equivalence of the number of diplomatic, administrative, technical, and service personnel of the Russian Federation operating in our country with those of the Republic of Moldova in the Russian Federation.
According to this decision, at the current stage, the representation of each state, based on the principle of parity, is to consist of 10 diplomatic positions and 15 administrative, technical, and service positions.
This decision comes as a result of numerous unfriendly actions towards the Republic of Moldova, unrelated to diplomatic duties, as well as attempts to destabilize the internal situation in our country.
The measure of equating the number of diplomatic, administrative, technical, and service personnel is adopted in accordance with the provisions of Article 11 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of April 18, 1961, which stipulates that "in the absence of an explicit agreement on the mission, the receiving state may require that this number be kept within the limits of what it considers reasonable and normal, considering the circumstances and conditions existing in that state and the needs of the mission in question.
In accordance with the diplomatic note delivered to the Russian side during the meeting, the aforementioned decision of the Moldovan authorities must be implemented by August 15, 2023.
